ArtPrize Named one of Time Magazine’s Five Favorite Festivals Worldwide for 2013
Grand Rapids, you are such a great city and we are lucky to call you home. You have been named ‘Beer City USA,’ one of the most affordable cities to live in the nation, one of the happiest places to work, one of the best places to live and the #1 city to raise a family. And today it was announced that your beloved ArtPrize has been named one of Time Magazine’s five favorite festivals worldwide for 2013.
Time’s travel section today named ArtPrize on its worldwide list of “Five Festive Events You Won’t Want to Miss in 2013.”
ArtPrize 2013, which returns in September, is listed alongside an event in Indonesia, one in New Zealand and two in Europe.
ArtPrize 2013, the radical exhibition and competition created in 2009, ranked No. 4 on the list unveiled today in Time’s Style Section along with such internationally famous events as the Eurovision Song Contest, which ranked No. 2
Time magazine’s nod comes almost exactly two years after Newsweek named Grand Rapids as a dying city, though the magazine later beat a hasty retreat.
Time’s Dave Kaufman, one of five writers contributing to the list, takes the usual shots at the Midwest, referring to Grand Rapids as “a Michigan city better known for Rust Belt decline than edgy painting and photography.”
Bask in the glory Grand Rapids… you are truly something special!
