These bikes are built in Anchorage Alaska and are offered in titanium, aluminum, and steel frames all made in the USA. The geometry and design of these bikes reflects years of racing and riding.
How it all began… When the Fatback first arrived on the scene, snow bikes were limited to the Surly Pugsley (also available at Central District Cyclery) and a few custom steel bikes. These guys wanted something that handled more like a bike, put the rider in a more comfortable position, accommodated wider rims, allowed for the use of a strong 29er wheelset in the summer, and came in under 4 lbs. The Fatback was created.
They began with a 165mm rear hub before creating the symmetrical 170mm rear hub, now the industry standard. Since that time, numerous other companies have jumped on board, recognizing the advantages that the symmetrical rear end fat bike offers. Fatback started it all and they continue to lead the way in high quality, innovative products like their US made aluminum frame.
